In amongst the vast amount of invoices in the file we have for GRF 69E is one for a full engine re build in 1994. The engine still performs and pulls very well indeed. From 1962 to 1967 all MGB’s were fitted with a four speed gearbox. Along with some small improvements to cope with the additional power of the bigger MGB engine, the gearbox was actually modelled on the one used in the MGA. It wasn’t until 1968 that the gearbox was upgraded to a full synchromesh unit.
The MGB enjoyed 18 years in production. For many years it was viewed as “The” modern British sports car. In 1965 The GT version was launched. It was a great successes, and offered a practical solution for sports car enthusiasts. The designers at MGB had managed to make room for an additional two passengers (all be it rather petit passengers) and also gave the option to fold the rear seat down, all of which today still give this model a great working advantage.
